Although only recently emerging as one of the world’s most pristine diving and eco-tourist centers, scuba diving in Belize has long offered a diving experience that is unique and second-to-none. The Barrier Reef which runs along much of the coast of mainland Belize as well as it’s numerous caye’s (island’s) is approximately 185 miles (298 km) in length of unmatched beauty. With so many dive sites to explore, many avid diver’s return year after year, addicted to the massive variety, complexity, and diversity that Belize scuba diving offers.

Depending on your desired adventure, scuba diving day trips can vary immensely. If you are planning on spending most of your vacation on one of the caye’s, such as Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker, most of the popular and best dive sites are only about a 10 minute boat ride to the reef. However if you are planning on staying further south in Belize, such as in Placencia, many of the dive sites are often 30 mins- 1.5 hrs off of the mainland of Belize. It is important to determine before booking your Belize hotel, resort, or vacation rental that you decide on what type of diving adventure you wish to have, and at what area. Do you want to test your limits and try the adrenaline-charged, world-renown “Blue Hole”, or would you prefer to simply have a relaxing morning and experience the bright colors of the Barrier Reef close to your hotel?
